Wedderburn Farmers Market Gains Accreditation

Wedderburn Farmers Market Accreditation signThanks to Regional Development Victoria’s ‘Start Up” grant the Wedderburn Community House was able to start up a Farmer’s Market, the only one in the Loddon Shire.

In October 2014 the we conducted the first Farmers Market in Wedderburn. This market was held in conjunction with the Naturally New Age Festival which was a huge success. However, we only had 4 Farmers Market stallholders attend.

Jacquie Stallinga was responsible for the large amount of stallholders present for the New Age Festival so it was decided that we employ Jacquie as our Farmers Market coordinator as we were confident that Jacquie would be able to increase the number of Farmers Market stallholders.

Since then our market has grown to around 10 regular stallholders each month. The market is held on the last Sunday of each month except January, June and July.

Jacquie has put a lot of work into getting stallholders accredited, sourcing appropriate insurance, holding information sessions, getting fantastic entertainment organised and all the other administration jobs too numerous to mention.

Finally all the hard work has paid off and we are now a fully accredited farmers market with the VFMA (Victorian Farmers Market Association). We have received our new signage which will go on display in 2016.

With community support this market can only get bigger and better. We also run an Art/Craft market in conjunction with the Farmers Market which provides diversity among stallholders and gives visitors a wider variety of choices.

Our Farmers Market stallholders range from live poultry, goats milk products, sauces, relishes and preserves, eucy oil, olive oils, plants and home cooked food.  We also have stallholders providing cooked food for lunch and quality entertainment which gives our locals and visitors to the town the opportunity to  make a day of it and meet up for lunch, have a chat and enjoy the wonderful music.
