The Black Dog Ride was a huge success with over 85 bikes (some with pillions) arriving for lunch at the Wedderburn Community House on Sunday 18 August. The Lions put on another one of their famous BBQ’s which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Tourism, Lifeline, Beyond Blue and Loddon Healthy Minds all put on displays. Tourism displayed a fantastic hamper to be auctioned, made up of all donated local produce as well as lucky door prizes. Thanks to all the people who worked early in the morning setting up and taking part in making this venture such a success. We need to get people here at the House to showcase what we have on offer not only in House but the surrounding district. This was a great opportunity for Robyn Vella (Tourism Manager) to gather contacts to be able to send out information packs for Loddon Tourism.
Adrian Panozzo was the very entertaining guest speaker. Adrian is the CEO of Reclink Australia. They provide over 1000 sport and art programs each month for over 500 community organisations supporting people experiencing issues related to mental illness, addiction, disability, homelessness, domestic violence and social isolation.
Last year Reclink Australia provided over 100,000 participation opportunities to Australian’s experiencing disadvantage and is on track to achieve greater outcomes this year.
In 2012 Adrian created and launched the Choctober Campaign – and in addition to raising $50,000 the campaign engaged over 2000 participants and donors in the month long campaign aimed at increasing the awareness of issues relating to mental health and addiction.
Some of his other achievements are – 2 times finisher of the Marathon disable across the Sahara Desert, 2007 Churchill Fellow, former AFL umpire, 1998 Hawaiian Iron Man finisher, 2nd placed team behind the Queens Guard Gurkahs in the 2005 Oxfam 100km Trailwalker Challenge.
So as you can see Adrian had plenty to share with us and he was a real inspiration to listen to – thank you to John Forbes of Mitiamo for recommending Adrian. I am sure we will have him back again.
After Adrian finished his informative talk the riders re mounted and set off to Swan Hill where they will stay the night before heading off to Pt.Augusta to meet up with all the States before heading off to Alice Springs.
